10 Jewelry Gift Ideas for Every Special Occasion
10 Jewelry Gift Ideas for Every Special Occasion
The right piece of jewellery can help all of us look and feel our best, but it's also a great way to also show our loved ones how much we care when we choose pieces for them. Buying jewellery for a special someone in your life is a wonderful gesture, but you can take this gift to the next level by presenting it in a unique way. Do you need some help figuring out how you can wow your loved one with jewellery? Keep reading to learn our top jewellery gifting ideas that will take people's breath away. 1. Put the Jewellery on a Cute Soft Toy Who can resist the urge to smile when they see an adorable, soft toy animal? You can never go wrong with classic teddy bears, but your gesture will be even more memorable if you can give your loved one their favourite kind of animal or another unique soft toy that they'll love. There are two different ways that you can present the jewellery with a stuffed animal. You can either dress the soft toy with jewellery like a necklace or simply place the jewellery gift box on their lap. Take a look at the beautiful handmade and sustainable soft toys at Mann & Co as a great starting point. Toys like these will be just as treasured as the jewellery. 2. Leave It in a Surprising Place There's nothing more exciting than discovering a surprise that spices up your everyday routine. For example, if you know that your partner needs to drink a cup of coffee in the morning to wake up, you can put the gift box inside their mug. This option works best for people who don't go into autopilot during their routine. The last thing you'd want is for the jewellery to get soaked in hot coffee! Other ideas for this option include putting a gift box somewhere noticeable in the fridge, in the bathroom by products they use daily, inside a desk drawer or with their car keys. 3. Hide the Jewellery Gift Box Inside a Boring Box Related articles: How to Choose Gifts for Women in 6 Steps 6 Timeless Jewellery Gifts Make an Impression with Artisan Jewellery On a similar note, you can also add to the surprise of your loved one by hiding their jewellery gift inside a box for a more boring product. You could use a box from something that might be the type of gift your loved one would be given but which is a bit on the boring side. Put the jewellery gift box inside this box. You could also weight the outer box with something to give it something like the original weight to add to the surprise. Another idea is that if you and your loved one enjoy having cosy nights in with takeout, then you could place the jewellery box inside a takeout bag or container and tell them that you ordered their favourite dish. 4. Recruit the Perfect Delivery Person As much as your loved one adores you, it can be hard to surprise them since they may expect a sweet gesture from you. This is why it's a fun idea to get someone else to help you with the delivery. If you have children, then they are some of the best delivery people. Another good option is tying the box to an obedient pet and telling them to go to the recipient. Another idea is using a singing telegram (even if it's a friend who sings well) to present the gift. 5. Pair Jewellery Gifts With Another Gift If you have the funds to splurge on your loved one, then you can spoil them even more by getting them multiple gifts that are complimentary to the jewellery. One simple idea is to find a gorgeous purse and stick the box inside of it for them to discover. Or perhaps pick up a beautiful scarf and use it to wrap the jewellery gift box. Simone's most favourite scarf comes from the lovely Julie White. Another romantic thing you can do is tell your partner that you want to take them out for a special dinner. While that part may not be surprising, you can astonish them by saying that you've already selected their outfit. You can leave the jewellery box next to a new outfit that you're sure they'll love. This move will take a lot of confidence and knowledge to get right, but we have faith in you! 6. Share a New Experience With Them One of the nicest parts about sharing your life with someone is being able to experience new things together. Take some time to reflect on some different activities that your loved one has expressed an interest in and you can plan from there. For example, if they've always wanted to go skydiving, then you can ask your loved one's tandem partner for some help. After they land, they can pull the box out of a zippered pocket and tell them that they almost lost this during the jump. 7. Plan a Scavenger Hunt No matter how old we are, everyone will always be excited to go on a scavenger hunt. People who are creative can have a blast coming up with clues to guide their loved ones to the jewellery treasure. The jewellery is the ultimate gift, but they'll also appreciate all of the thought you put into creating an adventure for them with puzzles to solve along the way. 8. Serve It as Dessert Many of us have seen romantic movies where one partner serves a ring or earrings in a glass of champagne. While this looks romantic in theory, the reality is that your partner could start drinking from the glass before they notice. Then they'll have to fish out the jewellery and rinse it off so it's not sticky anymore. So it's probably safer to keep the jewellery separate from actual food or drink, while still creatively linking them. For instance, during the meal you can serve the box or the jewellery on a plate with a lid that needs to be removed, for instance (you could even rope in a waiter to help with this at a restaurant). 9. Consider Your Jewellery Gifting Timing Are you preparing to give an anniversary gift? If you'd like to add to the surprise, then you need to time your gift just right so they don't suspect it. If your routine is to exchange gifts at the end of the evening after you eat a nice meal, then you can switch things up by placing the jewellery box on a pillow for them to see as soon as they wake up. 10. Gifting Jewellery at Christmas Do you want to give jewellery as Christmas gifts this year? Have a think about how you could incorporate the gift into your Christmas gift giving tradition. Once idea is to make the gift a little more magical by presenting it in an ornament. Your loved one will enjoy hunting for the right ornament to find their unique gift. You can hold onto the ornament as a keepsake as well. Take a look at some inspiration to make your own Christmas ornaments to make them even more special. Another idea is to simply decorate the tree with jewellery and have your loved one find the pieces. Or serve the jewellery gift box on a pretty plate with a mince pie for breakfast. Gift Ideas: Make It Meaningful
Gift Ideas: Make It Meaningful
A well-made piece of jewellery from a loved one can be a gift we wear every day, with emotional ties to the person from whom it came. Many are lucky enough to have pieces that have been passed down through generations. The right piece can pick us up when we’re down or can work like a protective shield; as though we carry our loved ones with us. This year for Christmas we recommend making it meaningful; chose a gift that has a lot of thought behind it. Here are some choices we’ve put together, including pieces from our latest Australian Flora Range, inspired by stunning native flowers and plants. Don't forget that it doesn't have to be Christmas to give meaningful gifts, so these suggestions will work all year around. Read on ... Wattle it be? The popular golden wattle has been a marker of seasonal change in Australia for tens of thousands of years. First Nations people have utilised the wattle tree and flowers not only as an indicator of seasonal change, but also as a source of food, medicine and raw materials for making musical or hunting implements. As a species the tree has been part of the Australian landscape for 35 million years, with the golden wattle featuring on our Coat of Arms and as our official national flower. It’s a pretty big deal. Being quintessentially Australian, and growing in pretty much every state, the wattle has also been used as a symbol of national solidarity in times of crisis. It’s a familiar spring sight, one that evokes joy with glorious golden flowers, which Simone has used in her new collection. A wattle necklace or gold signet ring with a wattle motif as a present could signify the promise that positive change is afoot, or to symbolise standing in solidarity with a friend or loved one. They’re also a great choice for those of us who wish to embrace the wattle but are generally too allergic to enjoy spring (not the wattle’s fault mind).  Wattle signet ring in solid gold Wattle and yellow sapphires silver pendant Don't settle petal Part of the citrus family, the boronia shrub exists in all states of Australia and is part of a whopping 160 species of flowering plants. The boronia flower generally has four separate open petals, which are thought to signify a connection between all things. The open nature of the flower is thought to expand the heart, vision and self-awareness, while also bringing laughter and joy. The flower itself a has a strong, sweet-scented smell which is used in perfume production or in floristry. It may even remind you of someone you know. The boronia and pink tourmaline necklace, we believe, would suit a young relative about to make their way out into the world, with the flower reminding them of home and to keep an open heart, to trust themselves and to take joy in their first big adventure. Also take a look at the sweet and simple matching pink tourmaline and gold stud earrings.  Silver boronia necklace with a pink tourmaline gem Pink tourmaline and solid gold studs Moonshine There’s always that one person you ‘love to the moon and back’, say your Nan, bestie or a beloved pet. As part of our amulets range, this Victorian-style moon and back locket in silver is a great gift for the person that fills that sentiment. The locket has a small space to hold a picture or even a small personal artefact like a pet’s discarded whisker. It’s a good every day wear piece as it goes with pretty much everything. The gemstone is a luminous white moonstone, to light your way back to the one you love. Looking for something simpler with the same sentiment? Take a look at our little moon and stars silver pendant, featuring a tiny marcasite gem. Also see our Amulets Range, which includes many other jewellery designs inspired by wishes for good luck, protection and love, pretty much covering all the bases for a person close to your heart. Moon and back silver locket Moon and star necklace with marcasite gem To protect your lucky charms Many cultures believe a person can use the power of the eye to convey a curse onto an enemy, targeting them with bad luck and physical/psychic harm. The power of the evil eye, or Mati, dates as far back as 6th century Greece. Fortunately, the eye amulet was designed to protect its wearer from such things, helping dispel any curses and looking very stylish as it does so. Our plain silver eye amulet necklace is discrete so they’ll never see you coming. It’s part of our wider Amulets Range, which features different jewels and formats, including the solid gold eye amulet necklace with tsavorite gem for a bolder version of this necklace. Whichever style you choose, an amulet is an ideal gift for someone who’s been going through a rough time. Even if they don’t believe in curses, they’ll be sure that you are keeping an eye out for them every day. Silver eye amulet pendant necklace Eye amulet necklace with tsavorite gem For that person who brings joy into your life Daisies are not just a pretty face; they also provide a valuable food source for bees, flowering all year ‘round. They signify friendship and warmth, making them perfect for that friend who always picks you up when you’re feeling down. Opals are thought to amplify your thoughts and put them through the wash, bringing clarity and energy. They also have the advantage of changing colour, depending on the light, making them versatile. This daisy and opal ring and matching daisy necklace work together beautifully and are two customer faves. We love them as they replicate that glow and joy one feels when meeting up with someone precious to us. Plus, the lucky recipient can mix and match the ring with others in our range or their own collection. Daisy cocktail ring in silver and opal Daisy and opal pendant necklace No matter what pieces you choose, our diverse ranges will likely feature a piece that your friends or loved one swill treasure forever. You know them best after all.

The best guide to styling gold jewelry
The best guide to styling gold jewelry
Who doesn't love the gorgeous glamour of gold jewellery? Its beautiful quality and colour make it the most sought after metal when it comes to jewellery. That said, even gold jewellery won't do much for you if you don't consider how to style it. When styling jewellery, some people make the mistake of overdoing it without panache, leaving them looking overdone - and not in a good way. Others may be too subdued and draw little if any attention to their jewellery choices. There are also those who wear the same pieces day in and day out, some of which may be lovely but they get lost in repetition (and I bet they need a good clean too!). When it comes to wearing gold jewellery especially, you'll really want to make the most of your investment and style it so you look your best when wearing it - and so that you show it off appropriately. Here is our best guide to styling different types of gold jewellery. Let's dive in ... Choose Your Main Piece of Jewellery When it comes to jewellery, you'll often want to create a focal point. In other words, you will want to find a specific area that you want others to be drawn to when they look at you. Consciously or not, this is a way of communicating something about yourself to other people, so it pays to spend some time thinking about it. A common mistake people make is either wearing too much jewellery in an unfocused way or wearing other jewellery that visually competes with the main piece of jewellery they want to be the focus. Dots solid gold pendant on pearl necklace For example, if you're trying to show off a beautiful gold necklace, but also wear a huge pair of hoop earrings, people may end up looking much more at your earrings than your necklace. Even if they don't, the earrings will still be a distraction. Instead of doing this, focus on the one piece of jewellery that you really want to stand out and build the rest of your jewellery styling around it. If you want the focus to be on your earrings, considering wearing a very subtle necklace - or don't wear a necklace at all and go for delicate bracelets and rings. If the focal point will be your necklace, then wear small earrings and delicate rings. Likewise, you'll want to avoid too many other accessories when you are wearing jewellery or wear more simple jewellery if you want to show off an accessory instead. If a beautiful scarf is the thing you want people to focus on, then consider subtle gold earrings and rings. Finally, our favourite tip is to experiment with bending and breaking the rules. If you don't want to have a single focal point, then consider wearing a suite of jewellery that works beautifully together overall, perhaps because it's based on a colour, theme, repetition of design or general aesthetic. For instance, choosing all gold jewellery with the same or similar coloured gemstones appearing in rings, earrings and necklaces can work beautifully, especially if you co-ordinate your clothing. Imagine a bright, colour-blocked dress paired with such a collection of jewellery. Match Gold Jewellery With Your Outfit Yes, gold jewellery is beautiful, but that does not necessarily mean it will work with every outfit you own. You should always consider jewellery as being part of your wardrobe and think about how it will work with what clothing you're planning on wearing and the other accessories you might choose. In particular have a think about which colours will work with your gold jewellery. Wearing clothing with dark yellow, golden, orange or even red tones may cause it to get lost, for instance. Wearing it with neon colours is unlikely to work, but if you can pull it off, then good for you!  Dahlia solid gold earrings Plain black or white both always look amazing with gold jewellery as they make the gorgeous warm colouring stand out beautifully. Blue and gold are complimentary colours, so a rich dark blue with gold jewellery will always look wonderful - think of lapis lazuli colourings. You can also consider a conscious clash of colours, such as a vivid magenta paired with gold.  Be sure to experiment with different types of jewellery before you leave the house to see what looks best. If you're wearing something simple, you may want to spice up your outfit with a larger pair of earrings, a necklace, or a bracelet. On the other hand, if your outfit is more elaborate, it may be better to wear more subdued jewellery, so it doesn't distract from what you are wearing. See above for advice about choosing a focal point. Experiment with Mixing Metals Mixing silver and gold used to be seen as a fashion faux pas. The excellent news is that those days are gone and you should feel free to mix your metals with abandon. Real gold is a very expensive metal, so having smaller solid gold highlights paired with silver is a beautiful way to include the colours of gold and rose gold without needing to go all out investing in all gold jewellery. It's also just more fun and much more creative, so why not break the old fashion rules and experiment? You could wear individual pieces which are designed to include both metals, which is something we do a lot of at Simone Walsh Jewellery. Alternatively wear small gold earrings or skinny gold rings with other jewellery pieces in silver. Read our handy article on whether to choose gold or silver jewellery for more of our ideas on this subject. Layer or Stack Your Gold Jewellery Solid gold stacking rings with rubies While it's generally a good idea to not overdo the amount of jewellery you're wearing, layering or stacking is a great way to show off multiple pieces of jewellery at once and the layer or stack itself can be the focal point for your outfit. It's also a great solution when you don't know what to wear or if you want to dress up the most boring outfit. When it comes to necklaces, layering works best with dainty, lightweight necklaces of different sizes, shapes and lengths so they generally don't overlap. You will often choose a focal point (it's a common theme!) and build the layers around it so that one necklace is the stand out. However, you can also make this look work with a more delicate and sparse array of small but intriguing pendants, each of which will grab the eye at different times. You can also wear a variety of different rings in a stack, either on one finger or spread across several. Experiment with mixing gemstones, simple bands combined with an elaborate cocktail ring, etc.. It's all about the look you're wanting to pull off. Gold rings are wonderful to add to a ring stack with other metals as they provide that lovely pop of warm colouring. Ring stacks are a great way to mix metals, but if you can and the outfit suits, go all out and wear an entirely gold stack for a very elegant look. Bracelets are also an excellent option for stacking and even earrings if you have multiple piercings. Check out our guide to building the perfect ring stack. Also see our handy article about how to mix, match and stack your jewellery. Understand What Gold Jewellery Really is There's a lot of confusion about gold jewellery and the different types of gold (or gold coloured) jewellery that are available. People especially get confused by price when shopping for gold: why are some pieces so much more expensive than others? The simple answer is that not all gold jewellery is solid gold and some of it isn't gold at all. If a gold coloured piece is inexpensive, then it's almost certainly not made of solid gold. It may be plated, gold vermeil (a heavy plating of gold over silver), gold filled (a thick bonded coating of gold over base metals) or just brass (which we don't recommend you wear against your skin). Butterfly wing earrings made in 24ct gold vermeil Well made gold vermeil and gold filled can wear well over time, especially compared to plated jewellery, but it will eventually wear through to the metal beneath. These finishes certainly have their place and are a more affordable way to wear gold jewellery, but they are definitely a compromise of price over quality and longevity. If you want a piece of gold jewellery that will wear well and last a long time, then you need to invest in solid gold and that will be considerably more expensive. The good news is that real gold will keep its value over time and can even increase in value depending on what the markets are doing. Gold is always a good investment. The key takeaway is that when shopping for gold jewellery, make sure you understand what the pieces are really made from and whether the price tag is a fit for that material and your expectations. If the store selling the jewellery isn't clear on what materials their pieces are made from then they're best avoided. As a final point, also consider what carat (or karat if you're in the US) the gold is as it does make a difference to the colour. The higher the carat, the more vivid the gold colour will be, with 24 carat being pure gold. If you're planning on stacking gold rings or layering gold necklaces, then the differences in colours between higher and lower carats of gold may be more noticeable than you'd like, so do think about this when shopping. Here's a handy article to help you understand the different types of gold jewellery and another about gold more generally. Experiment With Your Style Many of us get caught up in the same styles we've had for years. For example, if you're someone who always wears studs in their ears and a tiny necklace, it may seem odd to suddenly throw on a choker or big hoop earrings. Starburst opal drop earrings made in silver with solid gold settings However, it never hurts to experiment with changing things up. Not only could it get you out of a rut but you may also find a new style you prefer even more. It might even give you a fresh perspective on life in general! Also, keep in mind that you never need to be limited to one set style all the time. There's no rule that says you need to always wear the same style or stick to the same aesthetic. Mix it up a bit and see how it goes. For instance, if you always wear silver jewellery, take a look at wearing all gold or adding some gold into the mix. If you're still sticking to the fashion 'rule' of never mixing metals, then try snapping out of it and combine some silver and gold with one outfit. Our best tip in this regard is to simply spend some time in front of a mirror with an array of jewellery, clothing and accessories. Try out all sorts of combinations, from the boring to the radical, and see what works for you. Make note of combinations you like so you can remember them later. Also note any gaps in your wardrobe or jewellery collection that you'd like to fill. (Reading this on a website that isn't simonewalsh.com? Are gold rings worth investing in?
Are gold rings worth investing in?
Gold rings have been a much sought after jewellery accessory for millennia, with some of the oldest rings in gold found to date having been made around 6,500 years ago. The beauty, elegance, preciousness and durability of solid gold has made it an enormously popular choice for rings, right up to the present day. Of course gold rings (as with all solid gold jewellery) are expensive, so why do people invest in them rather than more affordable metals? Read on to explore the benefits of owning and wearing solid gold jewellery, along with the versatility and timeless style of gold rings and the different types of gold rings that you could consider adding to your rings collection. Benefits of Solid Gold Rings: Solid gold jewellery is known for its durability and strength, making it perfect for everyday wear. Rings can take a bit of a beating, especially if you wear them a lot of the time, so having them made in solid gold means they will survive the wear and tear of life better than softer metals, such as silver. Unlike other metals, solid gold in 14ct (14K) or above does not tarnish or corrode, which means it will always maintain its stunning shine and beauty. It can sometimes discolour due to exposure chemicals including make up and chlorine. Read our article about how to care for and clean jewellery for some tips about this. Although a tiny number of people are thought to have an allergy to it, gold is also generally non-irritating for almost everyone, making it a great choice for sensitive skin types. However, be aware that gold which is alloyed with nickel is much more prone to triggering allergies, so take care to choose jewellery which is nickel free (as is all Simone Walsh Jewellery). If you've read that gold is 'hypoallergenic', then be aware that this is just a marketing term: learn more in our jewellery myths article. Finally, solid gold will generally retain its value as a precious metal and it can be endlessly reused when melted down. One of the reason gold has historically been used for wedding rings is as a demonstration of the groom's ability to provide for his bride, but also to give something small, portable and high value which can be sold in desperate times. Versatility of Rings in Gold: Being such a classic metal, gold rings are one of the most versatile pieces of jewellery a woman can own. Depending on the design, they can be worn with any outfit, from casual to formal and they will dress up or down really well. They are generally ideal for everyday wear given how hard wearing they tend to be (again, depending on the design). Rings in gold also come in a variety of styles, including classic designs, modern and contemporary designs, and even bohemian and vintage designs. Timeless Style of Gold Rings: The timeless style of gold rings makes them a great investment. Unlike fashion jewellery pieces that come and go, gold rings will never go out of style. They can be passed down from generation to generation, and will always be a valuable piece of jewellery to have in your collection. Additionally, if you do decide you no longer like a particular design or need it to be modified in some way, a manufacturing jeweller can potentially modify or remake a gold ring for you. Plus of course they are generally repairable should something go wrong. (Reading this on a website that isn't simonewalsh.com? Be aware that the content has been stolen, infringing the copyright of a small business. ABN: 65108844126) Types of Rings Made in Gold: Simple Gold Bands - Classic gold bands are a must-have in any woman's jewellery collection. They are simple yet elegant, making them a versatile accessory for any occasion. Check our our simple rose gold ring as an example. Gemstone Gold Rings - A stone set on a gold ring makes for a stunning piece of jewellery. You can choose a clear or softly coloured stone or go for something vivid which will add a pop of colour to your fingers. Take a look at our birthstone rings for wide variety of gold gemstone rings. Statement Rings in Gold - Gold statement rings are perfect for those who want to add a pop of personality to their jewellery collection. They come in a range of styles, including chunky gold rings, gold cocktail rings, and rings featuring more eye-catching gemstones. Being made in solid gold, these are likely to be high value investment pieces. Gold Stacking Rings - Stacking rings are a great way to add depth and texture to your jewellery collection. Gold stacking rings can be mixed and matched with other rings to create a unique and personalised look. Classic Wedding Rings in Gold: Wedding rings, traditionally made of gold and often in the form of a simple band, symbolise the eternal bond of marriage. They are a classic choice for couples exchanging vows, representing love and commitment. Gold Signet Rings: Signet rings have a rich history and serve as a symbol of personal identity and heritage.
